Health Requirements for Admission:
KAS follows guidelines by the American Academy of Pediatrics
regarding health care of children in keeping with our American
school identity as well as some modifications according to local
guidelines.
1. The Student Health Record and Health
Examination Forms must be completed and submitted prior to admission (both
forms can be downloaded from this website). A physician in the
student's country or country of residence may do the examination
at the time of application. Examinations must be in the calendar
year of application. Examinations prior
to that time are unacceptable.
Thereafter, an examination at grade 6 and grade 9, as well as
in each year of participation in competitive sports is required.
2. Required Immunizations. The basis
of KAS immunization requirements are the guidelines established
by the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as some modifications
according to local guidelines. Parents must submit copies of
official records of the child's injections/immunizations. The
records must be in English or provided with an English translation.
These may be copies of infant injection books or other physician's
documentation verifying actual administration
dates of the injections.
Medical statements such as "all injections given on schedule"
are unacceptable.
Applicants must provide official records with the administration
dates of injections.
The child is susceptible and there is a re-administration of
the immunization series if records cannot be located according
to experts. The following immunizations are required (according
to the USA immunization schedule). Proof of the following immunizations
is requried.
DPT - This is given in a series of 4 doses during the first 2
years of life followed by a booster sometime after age 4 and
before school entry. After that, DT (Diphtheria/Tetanus) booster
is required at around age 11, and is good for 10 years.
Polio - Polio is given in a series of 3 doses early in life followed
by a booster sometime after age 4 and before school entry.
Hepatitis B - This is a series of 3 injections given over six
months. In the United States it is becoming increasingly common
for states to require it for all their students.
Measles - First dose of immunization
at the age of 9 months.
Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) - This is a series of 2 vaccinations,
the first is given at age 15-18 months and the second is given
sometime between the ages of 4 and 6 and before school entry.
If a student has had one of the infections, rather than the immunization,
a physician's statement confirming the diagnosis is required.
3. Recommended Immunizations. The following immunizations are
not required, however, (the American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends
-
Varicella or Chickenpox - This requires
only one injection and is typically administered between 12-18
months of age.
Japanese Encephalitis B Series
4. Suggested Immunizations. The following immunizations are not
required, however, suggested -
Hepatitis A series
TB test (annually)
BCG
