The Kaohsiung American School has been serving the greater Kaohsiung community since 1989. This school year we have served 330 students in our PreK-Grade 12 program representing 28 different nationalities.

KAS is a non-profit, college preparatory private school with an American curriculum modeled on stateside standards and learner objectives. Through our Curriculum Council and the greater KAS faculty, our programs are annually upgraded and strengthened to prepare our students for challenging study in the finest of stateside colleges and universities. Within this highly academic environment, it is also our desire to build upon diversity among students, teachers, and teaching styles.

At the beginning of the year we received notice of our six year reaccreditation (through 2013) from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in California! We now begin implementing and monitoring our Action Plan which is designed to fuel school improvement and program growth at KAS.

The single most important resource at KAS is our teaching staff. Our teachers are well prepared, child-centered, and collectively practice the ideal that student needs must be given top priority over other concerns.

At KAS, we see students as whole individuals operating in a broader context rather than memorizing facts and subject matter details. We want our students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers, effective communicators, active learners, community contributors, and persons of high character. Our faculty serves as adult friends to our students leading to the development of healthy teacher-student relationships within a climate of productive student outcomes.

The Kaohsiung American School is a serious school characterized by hard work and the highest of expectations. We expect nothing less. At the same time, we recognize that school and learning must be fun!

The 07-08 school year has concluded and it has been a year of extraordinary student academic achievement and extra-curricular accomplishments! On a personal note, I have completed five years of service as KAS director and extend a warm welcome to Dr. Tom Farrell who will begin his new duties as KAS director this July.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions, or would like to hear more about our school. We stand ready to assist you in every way possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Peter Nanos
Director
